An easy family favorite dinner recipe of classic comfort food! Savory ground beef patties are juicy and tender in the thick, flavorful mushroom gravy. Serve over mashed potatoes for the ultimate TV dinner meal reminiscent of the 1960s.
Mix the ground beef, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, shallots, Italian seasoning, and milk in a medium mixing bowl.
Shape the beef mixture into 8 patties.
Add vegetable oil to a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the beef patties. Brown both sides for 3 to 5 minutes each. Transfer the patties to a slow cooker.
Top the beef patties with mushrooms, dry onion soup mix and water.
Cover and cook on LOW for 5 hours.
Remove the patties from the slow cooker. Mix the cornstarch with a bit of water (about 1 tablespoon) and pour into the slow cooker.
Set the slow cooker to HIGH and stir. Cover and cook for 10 to 15 minutes until the sauce is thickened.
Add the patties back to the slow cooker with the sauce.
Serve hot. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve over mashed potatoes or steam veggies, if desired.
