Ingredients
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil chopped
- ¼ cup red onion minced
- ¼ cup feta cheese crumbled
- 1 clove garlic minced
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
- ½ cup Italian-style bread crumbs
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
For Serving:
- 4 hamburger buns toasted
- Romaine lettuce leaves for serving
- Red onion sliced for serving
- Tomato sliced for serving
- Store-bought or homemade Tzatziki for serving
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, dill, basil, red onion, feta cheese, garlic, red pepper flakes, Italian bread crumbs, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are evenly incorporated. Be careful not to overmix.
- Divide the burger mixture into four portions and shape each portion into a patty. Place the patties on a plate or parchment-lined sheet pan and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This helps the burgers hold their shape while grilling.
- Preheat a non-stick grill pan over medium heat. Once the pan is hot, brush the grill grates with olive oil using a silicone basting brush.
- Place the patties on the grill and cover with a lid. Cook for 6-8 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- Assemble the burgers by placing them on toasted buns. Top with romaine lettuce leaves, slics red onion, tomato, and a generous dollop of tzatziki sauce
Notes
- Mix the chicken mixture with your hands for the best results. Avoid overmixing, as it can make the burgers tough and dense.
- Toppings are optional, but you can get creative with sliced jalapenos, hummus, Greek olives, Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, cucumbers, sliced avocados, garlic aioli, or pickles.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze them for up to 3 months. To prevent sticking, stack the patties with parchment paper between each one.
- To reheat frozen burgers, thaw them in the fridge overnight, then heat them on the grill, in the oven, or in a pan until warmed through.
- For food safety, We recommend using an instant-read meat thermometer. Chicken is cooked at 165F.
- Oil the grill to prevent sticking. Preheat the grill on high for a few minutes, then brush on a neutral oil using a silicone basting brush.
