Benefits of CrockPot Recipes for Potlucks
SAVES TIME & EFFORT – By prepping your ingredients, tossing them into the crockpot, and letting it do the work for you, you can have a delicious potluck dish with minimal hands-on time. Crockpot recipes also require minimal clean-up – which is always a winner in my book.
EASY TO TRANSPORT – Slow cookers have handles that make it easy to move. Just unplug and go. A few models also have locking lids that prevent spills and leaks during travel.
VERSATILE – You can make anything from soups and stews to casseroles and even desserts in a crockpot. The slow cooking process also allows for flavors to meld together and develop, resulting in rich and hearty dishes.Â
GREAT FOR GROUPS – Crockpot recipes are perfect for feeding a crowd because they can yield a large quantity of food with minimal effort. Whether it’s a potluck, family gathering, or game day party, a crockpot filled with chili, pulled pork, or meatballs gets the job done.Â
Potluck Tips & Tricks
Whether you’re hosting the potluck at your home or traveling to the event. Here are some tips and tricks to note.
Before the potluck have a signup sheet or a master list of what everyone is bringing. That way there are no duplicates.
If your CrockPot doesn’t have a lid lock option for transportation (like this one), and you have no one to hold it, transport it in a box and place it on the floor (make sure to bring paper towels). That way if it spills, you don’t have a massive mess to clean up in your vehicle.
Bring an extension cord (or have it ready at your serving station), that way if your placement isn’t near an outlet you can still use power to keep your dish warm.
Don’t forget to grab cutlery (I like the compostable disposable cutlery), paper plates, and (if you’re bringing chili or soup) paper bowls.
You’ll always need more napkins and paper towels than you originally thought. People spill, and if there are finger foods like wings, everyone will need them. A package ofunscented baby wipes is nice to clean kid’s faces and saucy wing fingers.
Label your dishes. Not everyone will know what is in your dish. Tape a piece of paper to the lid of the slow cooker and write down what it is and if it has any dietary significance (gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, etc). As a mom with a celiac child, this extra step is very much appreciated. These dissolvable labels are awesome(and wash right off for easy cleanup).
Speaking of allergens and dietary preferences, it’s always a good idea to have a variety. Have some vegetarian options, dairy-free options, and gluten-free options. If someone you know has a nut allergy, ask for all dishes to be nut-free. The last thing you want at your party is someone to have an anaphylactic reaction.
