How to Make Crockpot Salisbury Steak
- STEP ONE: Mix the ground beef, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, shallots, Italian seasoning, and milk in a medium mixing bowl.
- STEP TWO: Shape the beef mixture into 8 patties.
- STEP THREE: Add vegetable oil to a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the beef patties. Brown both sides for 3 to 5 minutes each. Transfer the patties to a slow cooker.
- STEP FOUR: Top the beef patties with mushrooms, dry onion soup mix and water.
- STEP FIVE: Cover and cook on LOW for 5 hours.
- STEP SIX: Remove the patties from the slow cooker. Mix the cornstarch with a bit of water (about 1 tablespoon) and pour into the slow cooker.
- STEP SEVEN: Set the slow cooker to HIGH and stir. Cover and cook for 10 to 15 minutes until the sauce is thickened.
- STEP EIGHT: Add the patties back to the slow cooker with the sauce.
- STEP NINE: Serve hot. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve over mashed potatoes or steam veggies, if desired.

What to Serve with Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak
Variations and substitutions
- Try panko bread crumbs, crushed saltine crackers or crushed Ritz crackers instead of the regular bread crumbs.
- Use any type of onion you like in place of the shallots. Diced sweet onion is also yummy.
- Any type of starch can be used to thicken the gravy. Some other options instead of cornstarch are tapioca starch or arrowroot powder.
- Fresh parley for garnish is totally optional. You can also used dried parsley if you like.
- Medium ground beef or extra lean ground beef can be used instead of lean ground beef.
- A mixture of oregano, thyme and basil can be used in place of the Italian seasoning.
